Where to go and what to see
The Old Stone House is in the centre of the village of Sykourio and all local amenities are within walking distance
Sykourio has several small supermarkets nearby, there are bakeries, butchers, a chemist, a health centre, a dentist, as well as cafes and restaurants. Every Friday there is a fresh produce market in the main square. A regular bus service connects you to the nearby city of Larissa which is worth visiting for its famous amphitheatre, archeological sites, museums, galleries, shopping, restaurants and entertainment.
Visits can be arranged to local workshops and producers, offering you the chance to experience olive oil and honey tastings, learn about/make herbal soaps at Rosmarino workshop, or indulge in aromatherapy and massage appointments. It is also worth visiting the sculpture garden of the famous artist Stelios Papanikolau however this needs to be arranged in advance. For the adventurous, this is the ideal base for trekking, hiking, and canyoning - as well as rafting in season.
The OLD STONE HOUSE is an ideally placed for exploring the trails and hikes of Mount Ossa and Mount Olympus. The sea is only a 30 min drive away and there are many different beaches to choose from - we can help with recommendations. The archeological sites of Vergina, Dion and Larissa are not far away - and of course no stay is complete without visiting the world famous UNESCO site of Meteora!
